East Providence police warn of puppy scam on social media

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Police Department is advising the public about a new scam involving puppies for sale.

Police said accounts on Facebook Marketplace listed Dachshund and Bulldog puppies for sale using information from actual residents’ identities and requested to be paid electronically.

Authorities want to remind potential shoppers that these posts are a scam and may be part of a highly sophisticated crime ring.

Police further advised residents remain vigilant when making electronic purchases with unknown people.
