East Providence runs for life at AIDS walk

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The annual AIDS Run/Walk for Life took place at Pierce Memorial Field on Saturday.

The annual event, sponsored by AIDS Project Rhode Island, was started in the mid-80s to raise funds and awareness for those living with HIV/AIDS.

The organization said that 247 runners registered for the event.

The walk was followed by the city’s second annual PRIDE Parade.

“A lot of times people forget that it’s still a very serious disease that exists,” Mayor Bob DaSilva said. “So events like this help to bring awareness and remind people that its still something being dealt with.”
