EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The City of East Providence has announced a two-week closure of their Senior and Recreational Center, as well as City meetings, effective immediately, in response to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

The center will reopen on January 14, where it will be reevaluated if the center needs to remain closed.

The Senior Center will transition to Grab and Go lunches and home delivery of lunches will be made available for those seniors who are unable to drive to the Center.

The Senior Center does not deliver lunches to residents staying outside of East Providence. Seniors, who would like to order a lunch for pick up or delivery, are asked to contact the Dining Room Manager at 401-270-1814.

The City will also be closing all East Providence board and commission meetings scheduled until January 14. This will be reevaluated if the Governor or General Assembly allow remote public meetings under the Open Meetings Act.

A mask mandate will continue to be in place in all city buildings.
