East Providence to launch mattress pickup and drop-off program
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Residents of East Providence struggling to dispose of old mattresses and box springs got a welcome bit of news from the city today.
The Department of Public Works announced that it’s taking appointments beginning this Saturday for its October mattress collection.
The bulky bedding can be scheduled for pickup on the second and fourth Saturdays in October. That will fall on Oct. 10 and Oct. 24 this year.
The cost for either item is $25; checks can be dropped off at city hall, or the DPW facility at 60 Commercial Way, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Checks can also be mailed to East Providence City Hall, ATTN: DPW, 145 Taunton Ave., East Providence, RI, 02914.
Residents are asked to write their phone number and a pickup address in the memo of the check.
Additionally, residents can drop off unwanted mattresses and box springs themselves on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. There is no cost to drop them off, but residents are restricted to two items.
As a reminder, the mattresses and box springs must not be wet, severely damaged, soiled, or infested with bed bugs.
