An East Providence woman is accused of leaving an 8-month-old baby in her car Tuesday while temperatures were in the mid-20s.

A person walking to her car heard the baby crying and called police. Officers confronted the baby’s mother, identified as Yao Liu, when she returned to her vehicle.

Police say the baby was alone in the car for about 10 minutes. Liu does not speak English and did not know it was against the law.

Liu and her baby were taken to Norwood Hospital as a precaution.

Police said they expect to file child endangerment charges against the woman.
