Easton’s Beach in Newport packed with most adhering to the rules, while State Beaches reach capacity

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – It was another gorgeous summer day in Rhode Island Sunday and many people flocked to the beaches.

ABC 6 News went to Easton’s Beach in Newport on Sunday where we found most people were wearing masks when on the pavilion and using the restrooms. However there were a handful of people we observed that were not complying with wearing a mask.

As the day progressed, all of Rhode Island’s State Beaches reportedly reached capacity Sunday as indicted on the RI Parks and Beaches website.

Governor Raimondo announced last week that compliance of beach goers wearing masks while on the pavilion need to be better. Although she does not want to, the governor said that if people continue to not comply going forward, she will have to close the beaches.
