Electric Boat Awarded $9.5 Billion Contract
Navy Calls on Quonset for Next Generation Submarines

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE)- A celebration is planned for Friday morning at Electric Boat after the U.S. Navy awards the company with a $9.5 billion contract to build two Columbia-class submarines.
Both Rhode Island Senators Reed and Whitehouse will be on hand for the event at 11 a.m. along with the President of Electric Boat Kevin Graney and Vice President of Operations at Quonset Point, Sean Davies.
According to Sen. Reed, this contract will allow the company to keep steady work at Quonset.
The Columbia-class subs are to replace the aging fleet of Ohio-class nuclear ballistic submarines. Reed’s office says Naval officials have labeled the Columbia-class as its top acquisition priority.
