Employees okay following Pawtucket hazmat, cause remains uncertain

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE)- About 20 employees at Bio-Detek Inc. in Pawtucket have been released from the hospital following a hazmat incident Thursday night.

However, the cause remains unknown at this time.
On Friday, ABC6 spoke with Michael Cummins, a Pawtucket resident whose mother works at Bio-Detek.
While his mom was not affected, he saw a lot about the incident over social media.
“She didn’t tell me anything about it actually one of her friends posted about it on Facebook. There were close to about 40-50 police cars out there and a lot of fire engines too…it was pretty crazy.”
Bio-Detek told ABC6 this is not being referred to as a chemical spill.
Although The Pawtucket Fire Department and HAZMAT team have ruled out a chemical spill, they have yet to determine what material caused the incident.

Work start times were slightly delayed Friday morning, but all operations are now back to normal.
