FAA lifts nationwide ground stop for Southwest Airlines flights

DALLAS (WLNE) — The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday lifted a nationwide ground stop for Southwest Airlines flights.

The FAA in a tweet wrote that Southwest Airlines paused for its departures because of an internal technical issue at Southwest.

“Southwest has resumed operations after temporarily pausing flight activity this morning to work through data connection issues resulting from a firewall failure,” wrote the Dallas-based airline in a statement. “Early this morning, a vendor-supplied firewall went down and connection to some operational data was unexpectedly lost.”

Travelers are asked to visit Southwest Airlines’ website to check flight status.

Southwest Airlines’ issue had minimal impact on flights in Rhode Island.
