A group of faculty at Rhode Island College has written a letter to support the college president, in response to a scathing letter from another group criticizing her.

The new letter endorsed by more than 50 people says President Nancy Carriuolo is an excellent leader, and that faculty and staff calling for her to be fired don’t represent the majority.

Fourteen faculty, staff and former staff members wrote to the council last week, taking issue with Carriuolo’s leadership.

The Council on Postsecondary Education is conducting an annual review of Carriuolo.

The postsecondary commissioner’s office has said it will consider feedback from the college community.

Carriuolo, named president in 2008, has not publicly addressed the controversy.

A message left at her office wasn’t immediately returned Wednesday.
