Fairhaven accident, driver charged with leaving scene
Hundreds come out to say goodbye to a Fairhaven woman as police press new charges against the driver accused of running her down.
Police said 36 year old Renee Andrews committed a crime when she left the scene of the crash last week, leaving behind two injured people 29 year old Katie Brienzo and her boyfriend, Ellery Reynolds. Brienzo was killed.
Brienzo's family is now telling ABC 6 they feel a small sense of justice knowing Andrews will face these new charges. Brienzo's mom said 700 people came to say their goodbyes at Monday's wake. In tears, she said knowing the woman who hit her is facing more charges helps her heartache.
Broenzo's brother Joel told us Friday he was making it his mission to make sure Renee Andrews faced harsher charges for hitting his sister and her boyfriend last week on Sconticut Road in Fairhaven.
Andrews was initially charged with motor vehicle homicide and negligent operation. Now, Fairhaven police said she's facing two additional charges for leaving the scene of the accident.
Officers said the 36 year old did turn herself in later that night.
Brienzo was crossing the street with her boyfriend and uncle last Tuesday night to go to a family dinner. Her boyfriend, Ellery Reynolds, has 13 stitches on his face and severe road rash. He's doing okay. The uncle was uninjured,
