Fall River company selling stockpile of up to 3-million COVID-19 at-home test kits

FALL RIVER, MASS. (WLNE) – If you’re having trouble finding an at-home COVID test at a nearby pharmacy or store, a local company may be able to help you out.

Fall River based Merrow Medical received a shipment of 500,000 test kits, with plans to continue receiving shipments of half a million for six weeks. The company says they are set to receive 3-million test kits total and plan to distribute those to the community.

“For the last 6 weeks, we’ve been hearing from our families and our friends how difficult it is to get these,” Charlie Merrow, CEO of Merrow Medical said. “Through a series of meetings and more urgency, it became very obvious we could do a public service by extending these out, that we had enough to do it and that it was not just the right thing to do, but it was needed.”

Merrow says the company started ordering the test kits nine months ago from a company in Korea called Celltrion. He says the tests are reliable and quick and their pile has been growing ever since.

“We started testing 8 or 9 months ago and we built up a program for asymptomatic testing at Merrow and our own supply required us ordering a lot of test kits,” Merrow said. “Because of that, we were able to– far before a supply chain crisis– be at the top of the line.”

The kits will set at $325 per box, which comes out to $13 per test kit. He’s also donating several to local charities and organizations.

“We’re prioritizing for Rhode Island and Massachusetts communities first– those orders get filled first,” Merrow said. “Businesses, nonprofits, and organizations in these two states are #1. We are not selling them to wholesalers or traders, that’s important to us and that’s why we’re doing it.”

Orders must be placed online at pcrplan.com. Larger orders can be done by emailing health@merrow.com,.
