Fall River fire claims one life

FALL RIVER, MASS (WLNE) – The Fall River Fire Department is investigating a Saturday fire that started around 4:30 a.m, and claimed one life.

According to the department, the fire was said to have happened on 11 Palmer Street where responders were there within minutes of receiving the call.

The fire fighters found the victim, confirmed to be 88-year-old William Graham on the second floor of the building. 

Neighbors say he was a veteran. 

The fire chief fell through the second floor and was sent to Rhode Island Hospital. He was treated and released.

A cat that was thought to have died in the fire, was located and is confirmed to be alive.

According to the Fall River Firefighters Union President, the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time and the department is comfortable with where the investigation is leading. 

The Fall River Fire Department’s thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.
