FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty last week to raping a child.
Devin Medeiros, 22, was sentenced to serve four to six years in state prison on Jan. 13, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn.
On Aug. 18, 2021, the victim was at Walmart with her mother.
Quinn said the child left the store with Medeiros, who she had met on social media.
Fall River police were able to identify Medeiros and went to his Fall River home, where they found the victim.
The victim told police that the 22-year-old told her to leave the store with him.
Once they got to his home, Medeiros broke the victim’s cell phone so she couldn’t be located.
The victim was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center, where she said she had sex with Medeiros in Middleboro as well as his home in Fall River.
The Middleboro case was prosecuted in Plymouth County, where Medeiros was sentenced to four to six years state prison.
Quinn said that during the sentencing hearing, Assistant District Attorney Catherine Sauter argued the defendant should be sentenced to eight to ten years in state prison for the Fall River case.
The judge decided to sentence Medeiros to a concurrent four to six year prison term with an additional two years of probation.
In addition to his sentence, he must register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender counseling and have no contact with the victim.
