Fall River: MassDOT issues advisory for repairs on Milliken Boulevard Bridge


FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced the beginning of substructure repairs on Milliken Boulevard Bridge over I-195 in Fall River.

The work is scheduled from Monday, January 3 into Thursday, January 6, utilizing both night-time and day-time shifts. Day-time work will begin from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with overnight work scheduled 7:00 p.m. into 5:00 a.m. the next morning.

Traffic will be allowed on the bridge for the entire day, but the I-195 eastbound on-ramp will be closed during the night. Several detours will be in effect:

  • Traffic from Route 79 southbound will go to Broadway and take a left on Columbia Street eastbound by the light (South Main Street). Columbia Street turns into Rodman Street and traffic goes onward into Plymouth Avenue (Route 81) and from that light, take a left and first right onto the on-ramp to I-195 eastbound.
  • Traffic from Broadway southbound will turn onto Columbia Street and follow the previous directions.
  • Traffic from Millken Boulevard southbound will turn onto Columbia Street and follow the prior directions.

Signage, law enforcement, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers. Drivers should expect delays, slow down, and proceed with caution. For more information visit the MassDOT website here.
