FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The city of Fall River announced a new shelter and warming centers opening Christmas weekend.

In response to the impending severe weather, two of Fall River’s homeless shelters are prepared to accommodate residents in need of housing for the holidays.

The First Step Inn and the Timao Center at the Spindle City Church will host a warming center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those in need of temporary shelter on Dec. 24 and 25.

Officials say anyone who wishes to use the warming center may drop in without calling beforehand.

Those who will be dropping in are encouraged to use the 65 Middle St. entrance.

Those seeking overnight shelter should contact First Step Inn at (508) 679-8001 or (508) 974-9972 for placement.

Fall River street outreach said they will continue to patrol the city to ensure that anyone in need of shelter has access.
