FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – A Fall River woman is facing child abuse charges after doctors at a Rhode Island hospital reported her to police.
Fall River Police said 21-year-old Thaysa Gagne, of Bogle Street, was arraigned Monday on charges of assault and battery of a child causing serious bodily injury, along with wanton and reckless endangerment of a child and witness intimidation.
Detectives responded to the hospital on June 4 at the request of doctors who reported a case of child abuse at the hands of Gagne.
A doctor on scene told Fall River Police that the infant’s injuries were some of the worst of that nature she had ever treated, reportedly telling police, “In my twenty years of doing this, this is the worst I’ve seen”.
Police did not discuss the nature of the injuries.
Gagne was ordered held ahead of a detention hearing on June 17 in Fall River District Court.
