Family of 15-year-old shooting victim asks Elorza to put up cameras

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza on Monday addressed the violence that happened over the weekend in the capitol city.

A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday on Wallace Street. There, police found Ger’Vonte Tilson’s body in the street just before midnight.

The mayor said that he spoke with Tilson’s family at the scene and that they asked him to “put cameras up so they can catch these folks.”

Last week, the Providence City Council voted to halt the installation of flock cameras in the city.

Elorza added that he thinks the most important thing families can do is “always be present, know what your children are up to as much as possible, and if you don’t know what to do, seek help.”
