Family of brutal murder victim speak out, demand answers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The body of Sherbert Maddox was discovered Tuesday morning by police wrapped in saran wrap in a refrigerator.

Friends and family of Maddox demanded answers Wednesday evening.

Maddox’s boyfriend, 53-year-old Nathan Cooper, was arraigned in Providence District Court, charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend.

Upon his entrance, Maddox’s family in the crowd began yelling at Cooper.

Dozens mourned Wednesday at the steps of the house that Cooper and Maddox lived in. Visitors brought candles and other objects to honor the life of Maddox.

“You took a part of me that I will never get back,” said Nakia Pigues, the sister of Maddox who traveled from Nashville, Tennessee. “Whoever did this, you’re going to see your day, judgment is coming for you.”

Pigues told ABC 6 News that she will not leave Providence until she gets answers from the community.

“Somebody knows something and somebody needs to speak on it, because if it were their loved ones, they would want answers, too,” explained Pigues.
