Family of missing East Providence man found in water to file suit

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A grieving family is now looking to file a wrongful death suit just hours after police found a 61-year-old man in the water in East Providence.

A woman found the body of Dennis Lonardo Sr. about a month after he was seen on video surveillance footage falling off a dock at the East Providence Yacht Club.

A lawyer representing the family of Lonardo—or Mousey as he was called—says the family wants to know why a man who knew how to swim and had no known medical conditions would just fall off a dock and die.

“It wouldn’t be like him to just fall in the water. So, was it a condition of the dock where he fell? Was it a medical emergency that he suffered?” attorney Jude Kerrison said.

ABC 6 contacted East Providence Yacht Club, which shared this statement:

“The EPYC sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Dennis ‘Mousey’ Lonardo Sr. He was a friend of everyone at the marina and enjoyed being down on his boat with all the other patrons of the marina. The docks have been inspected by a marine safety firm and were found to be in excellent condition.”
