FOXBOROUGH, Mass (WLNE) – Sunday is the start of the New England Patriots 2019-2020 season, and fans are eager for kickoff.

Hundreds of fans arrived hours before Sunday night’s game to tailgate in Gillette Stadium’s parking lot.

“Most of us have been coming to the games forever,” said Billy Burrows.

Burrows has been tailgating Patriots games for 21 years. In 2017 he was voted the “Fan of the Year.”

He and his friends have a large setup on the corner of one of the parking lots. It’s equipped with tables, grills, ribs, and lobsters. His food attracts tailgaters from all over the parking lot.

“We started feeding the kids who worked here, then other people started coming to us asking if we can feed them,” said Burrows. “It’s taken off from there.”

Even those not as seasoned at tailgating as Burrows are enjoying pre-game festivities.

“This is a great game to come to because it’s the first game after the Super Bowl,” said first-time tailgater Greg Treantos.

The Patriots home-opener is against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m.
