Fans come together to watch Cranston Western play in Little League World Series
Proud supporters of the Cranston Western Little League team packed into the Thirsty Beaver on Friday, celebrating the teams debut in the Little League World Series. Family and friends who couldn’t be in Williamsport gathered together to watch the game, as next best thing. Grandmother Joyce Petrella is overjoyed to watch her grandson play.
"Oh my God, It’s indescribable… It’s a dream of a life time for him and I’m just so proud of him and happy for him."
Mayor Allan Fung was among supporters at the Thirsty Beaver. He says he is so proud of the boys, for not only representing Rhode Island, but also all of New England.
"They’re wearing that Cranston pride hard, they’re representing Rhode island well they are the New England champions we know they are going to play hard until the end,"says Mayor Fung.
After playing their hearts out until the final inning, they did not come up with the win, losing to South Carolina, 7 to 1. But fans tonight say win or lose,
it’s their journey to the little league world series that makes them most proud.
"To me they’re already stars, they’re awesome. I want them to be as proud of themselves as we are of them," says proud fan Tina Iacopucci.
"I mean, the regionals, to loose a game and win four in a row just to get to this point was incredible. They’ve taken us on an incredible ride and we will see where it goes from here," adds another fan, Nick Sczerbinski.
