Victim in fatal moped accident on Block Island is identified

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I (WLNE) – A person died after a moped accident happened Saturday afternoon on Block Island.

A moped and SUV crashed in a head-on collision on Spring Street at Whale Swamp Road, around 2:20 p.m., according to State Police.

The victim has been identified as Corey Sanville, 22, from Cranston. A 22-year-old female passenger on the moped was flown to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police say both were wearing helmets. The driver of the SUV was uninjured and is not being identified right now.

No charges are expected but the crash remains under investigation by Rhode Island State Police and the New Shoreham Police Department.

This is the second fatal crash on Block Island in less than a week. On Sunday, a 16-year-old was killed in a car accident on the island.
