PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A federal report focusing on programs receiving federal grants through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is criticizing several government programs in Rhode Island run by the state and city of Providence.

The monitoring report was issued by the U.S. Department of Labor’s regional Employment and Training Administration. The Providence Journal reports it cites the R.I. Department of Labor and Training for paying bills late in violation of state law.

The report also criticizes Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo’s office for incomplete monitoring of a local grants board.

Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training Director Scott Jensen says the state is working closely with the federal monitors and that 20 of the 50 issues raised by the report have already been resolved.
