FEMA to launch funeral assistance program

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- FEMA will launch a program next Monday that will help the families of the half million Americans that passed away due to COVID-19.

The agency will offer up to $9,000 per funeral in reimbursement to those that have lost loved ones due to the pandemic.

Households that have lost more than one family member could end up getting up to $35,500.

The deaths in question would have to have occurred after January 20, 2020 in order for the families to be eligible.

Anyone applying for reimbursement will have to show the paperwork for funeral costs and the cause of death.

Unfortunately, fraudsters are already trying to take advantage of this situation, so FEMA wants you to know that if you are eligible, you must call them directly at 844-684-6333 to apply.

There is no website to apply on, and they will not contact you first.
