PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The season’s final WaterFire is honoring veterans.

The popular downtown Providence event’s “Salute to Veterans” starts at 2 p.m. at the Rhode Island State House as veterans and dignitaries assemble for opening ceremonies that will culminate in a torch procession down to the Waterplace Park Basin just before sunset.

Over 80 fire pits installed in the city’s river will then be lit around 5 p.m. as veterans ring the basin.

The lighting ceremony will include a presentation of the colors and the playing of the national anthem and patriotic music by the Army 88th Band and Navy NE Band.

A resource fair will also be set up along Washington Street providing educational material about issues veterans can face after serving in the military.
