Investigators are looking into what caused a fire at a strip mall in Providence early Wednesday morning.

Crews responded to the scene at the Sunny Market Place on Reservoir Avenue just after 5:30 a.m.

Three firefighters were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with undisclosed, non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the fire started outside of the building, in a stack of cardboard boxes.

Sunny Market Place sustained the heaviest damage but heavy smoke and water damage made all the businesses in the building uninhabitable.

The fire has been deemed suspicious but an exact cause remains under investigation.
