Seven businesses were damaged in an early morning fire at a Tiverton flea market.

The flea market at the Route 177 Flea Market at Bulgarmarsh Rd went up in flames just before 1 a.m.

Fire crews from the surrounding area were called in to help extinguish the blaze. The task was difficult as fire crews struggled to navigate around knick-knacks and displays inside the 200 foot L-Shaped building. The weather also caused an issue requiring crews to call in a truck to sand the lot.

Firefighters on seen conducted a search of the building believing to have heard voices from inside. The voices according to Chief Robert Lloyd turned out to be animals.

During the incident, one firefighter was transported to Saint Anne's Hospital with a medical condition but he has since been treated and released.

At least two businesses inside the market are expected to be a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
