First annual seafood festival held in Providence

The first annual seafood festival takes place at India Point Park in Providence.

Saturday kicked off the very first Rhode Island Seafood Festival. Local Ocean State vendors, like Matunuck Oyster Bar, The Narragansett Grill and Jakes Sweet Meat BBQ were on hand providing sample dishes to seafood enthusiasts.

Organizers tell ABC6 that the event will be an annual fall tradition held in Providence, typically taking place sometime in September. However, this year's event was delayed due to rain.

Anyone who stopped by Saturday was also eating for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the American Red Cross, Hurricane Irene Relief Fund and the Rhode Island Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

Along with delicious food, festival goers were also able to enjoy live music.

The event was open and free to the public.

Vendors were on hand from 11 a.m to 6 p.m.
