First class certified with virtual reality training for Massachusetts’ Offshore Wind Project

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — On Thursday, 12 people became the first Offshore Wind workers in the world to be certified through virtual reality.

Vinci VR partnered with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SRGE) to hold this two-day course, that certified 12 workers going into Offshore Wind through virtual reality training.

They are the first group to receive Offshore Winds certification via virtual reality, and also the first group of workers in the state of Massachusetts to receive Basic Technical Training for the states Offshore Wind Projects. The course taught these workers how to install wind turbines from commissioning and wiring them, to signaling in ports.

The certification course allows these workers to be fully up-to-date when working on the Mayflower Wind and Vineyard Wind in the state of Massachusetts, as well as being part of the new green energy movement and Offshore Winds projects in Southern New England.
