Fishing boat hits Norwegian Pearl cruise ship east of Nantucket
BOSTON (WLNE) — People aboard a cruise ship that sails out of Boston every week were awaken by a jolt when the ship was hit by a fishing boat Saturday morning.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a crash involving the Norwegian Pearl just before 2:30 a.m.
A spokesperson said a fishing boat hit the boat’s midsection about 41 miles east of Nantucket.
“The seas were relatively calm and then all of a sudden the ship just started going to the side,” said a passenger. “Even if nothing happened we would like to know that something has not happened but the lack of transparency is worrying.”
The cruise ship suffered minimal damage. However, the fishing boat suffered significant damage. The passenger on the fishing boat suffered a laceration.
Nobody on the cruise ship was injured.
The Pearl sails weekly between Boston and Bermuda through November.
