Five shot in Providence near Chad Brown

By: Melissa Randall

Five people are recovering after a late night shooting in Providence Tuesday. The gunfire broke up a birthday party in the Chad Brown development. One witness didn’t want to go on camera, but describes hearing as many as 10 shots fired and then a car peeling out

“Next thing you know it revved the engine and then it slowed down and then next thing you know, woosh– gone,” he said.

Three women and two men were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Gabriel Burgos, 27, of Providence remains in serious condition. He was shot in the back. The other 4 victims range in age from their 20’s to 40’s.

Police say there are multiple crime scenes in the area of March street– all are believed to be connected.

“Do we believe it was targeted? It was a good chance it was. Were the people who were shot the intended targets? There is a good chance that they weren’t,” said Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department.

Investigators say more than one gun was used and say the shooting could be gang related.

Neighbors tell ABC6 News they to do have some concerns about the recent violence and the people behind it.

“They shouldn’t be doing this stuff right, because of the fact that it’s not good for the community. First of all, because you’ve got kids and what not in these houses,” said one Chad Brown resident.

There is no word on any possible motive. So far no arrests have been made.

Police will be stepping up patrols in the area.
