Flash flood warning issued for Southern New England
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning until 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
The warning is in effect for Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington counties in Rhode Island, as well as for Bristol County in Massachusetts and Windham County in Connecticut.
A warning is implemented when flooding is already occurring or is expected to occur.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said drivers should use caution while driving on roadways while the warning is in effect, and to never attempt to drive through flooded areas.
RIDOT added that the state has already seen a few inches of rain Sunday, and that additional heavy rain throughout the day and overnight may cause local flooding.
The Rhode Island State Police also announced that both sides of Route 95 at Thurbers Avenue is closed due to flooding.
The Red Cross released tips for the public to follow in the case of flash floods and tornados.
