Flash Flood Watch in RI, Mass.
The national weather service in Taunton has issued a flash flood watch for Northeast Connecticut, parts of Central and Eastern Massachusetts and most of Rhode Island.
The watch will be in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon.
Showers and thunderstorms with torrential rain are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday. Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible.
Urban areas of Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts are most at risk for flash flooding. Rapid rises will also occur on smaller rivers and streams, some of which may come out of their banks.
A flash flood watch means that rapid flooding of urban areas and small streams is possible. drivers should be prepared for the possibility of significant flooding of low lying areas, including underpasses and poor drainage areas.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
