Following standoff with police, Coventry man arrested

COVENTRY, R.I (WLNE) – Coventry Police arrested a man after a standoff ensued on Tuesday night.

Coventry Police attempted to serve 41-year-old Craig Chapman, who was wanted for Domestic Disorderly Conduct which stemmed from an incident on April 12

When police made contact with Chapman, he threatened to kill his family members and attempt “suicide by cop” if they entered.

The West Warwick/Coventry Regional SWAT Team responded to the scene, surrounding residences were evacuated and a standoff ensued.

A short time later, a Coventry dispatcher was able to talk Chapman into surrendering himself to police where he was placed into custody at 11:19 PM.

Chapman was charged with the following:

  • Domestic Disorderly Conduct
  • Possession of Schedule I (Over 10 ounces of Marijuana)
  • Possession of Schedule III (Anabolic Steroids/3 Counts)
