For Sale: Rhode Island Governor’s House

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee is selling his house in the capital city. Chafee and his wife, Stephanie, listed their seven-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom house on Providence's East Side last week for $889,000.

The Chafees purchased the house for $939,000 in 2006, amid his unsuccessful re-election campaign for U.S. Senate. They put it on the market for several months in 2009, but it didn't sell. The house was built in the late 1880s and is described as having 3,900 square feet. It's a few blocks from Brown University, where Chafee was a fellow before launching his gubernatorial campaign.

The estimated annual tax bill is more than $24,000, although it would be half that if the owner lives there. The Chafees have moved to a waterfront house in Warwick.
