Former Hendricken Star Will Blackmon of the Giants Gets Key to City of Providence

NY Giants player gets key to Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Providence's mayor has given a key to
the city to a Rhode Island native and professional football player
whose New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots in the
Super Bowl this month.

Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us) honored Will Blackmon, who
attended Bishop Hendricken High School in Cranston, at a ceremony
at City Hall on Thursday afternoon. The mayor called Blackmon a
“son of Providence” and positive role model and declared it
“Will Blackmon Day.”

The cornerback and punt returner is a native of the Rhode Island
capital who played college football at Boston College before
signing with the Giants.

Bishop Hendricken, an all-boys Catholic preparatory school,
retired Blackmon's jersey number in 2008.

Blackmon called the honor “unbelievable” and said he has
always remembered where he came from.
