WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The former Cranston police chief arrested for assaulting his wife inside their home faced a judge Monday morning.

Marco Palombo, 55, pled not guilty and was ordered to have no contact with his wife and daughter stemming from a domestic incident last month.

Police were called to their Cranston home where Palombo’s wife told police he and their adult daughter were in a verbal argument.

His wife tried to intervene and that is when he allegedly slapped her across the face leaving red marks visible to the responding officers.

Family told police this was not the first time the violence had happened.

According to a police report, Palombo said his wife tends to exaggerate and insisted the confrontation never got physical.

Outside Court Monday morning he showed remorse for his actions

“I let them down for sure,” said Palombo.

Palombo also says he is committed to saving his marriage. He was released on personal recognizance.

Meanwhile, his case will move to Superior Court.
