Former nurse pleads guilty to stealing drugs from Boston-area hospital

BOSTON (WLNE) — A former nurse pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to stealing drugs from the hospital where she was employed

According to court documents, Andrea Falzano, 39, of Winchester, pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawfully obtaining controlled substances by fraud, deception and subterfuge.

Officials said Falzano admitted to using her capacity as a nurse in the emergency department to take controlled substances from a locked drug cabinet which included morphine, fentanyl and hydromorphone.

Falzano further admitted to taking the drugs 412 times for 299 patients that were already discharged, over a five-months period.

Officials said the charge of unlawfully obtaining controlled substances by fraud carries a sentence of up to four years in prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

Falzano is scheduled to be sentenced on November 14.
