With his growing young family in tow, former Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy came to Woonsocket to campaign for General Treasurer candidate Seth Magaziner.

“He’s a fresh face, who’s got a lot on the ball and I think he’s going to be the kind of person we need in that General Treasurer’s office,” said former Rep. Patrick Kennedy. (D) Rhode Island.

“It’s going to be a fun day. We’re going to be going all over and meeting folks,” said Seth Magaziner, (D) Candidate for Rhode Island General Treasurer.

But Magaziner has been running ads railing against, Rhode Island‘s reputation for insider politics.

Q: Isn’t Patrick Kennedy about the ultimate… most ultimate insider there could be?

“No I don’t think so. I think Patrick was a great leader for this state,” said candidate Magaziner.

ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis said, “One of the big questions as the campaign hits full swing now, is whether endorsements like this really carry much weight.”

Aside from endorsing Seth Magaziner, Patrick Kennedy will also campaign this week for gubernatorial candidate Angel Taveras, and Secretary of State candidate Guillaume de Ramel.

Q: What do you hope the Kennedy name bring to these three races?

“Listen if it gives them a little bit more attention to their campaigns; it’s really their message that the voters have to vote on”

But, since the primary is still four weeks from now, analysts say it may not mean much to voters.

“The fact is, the significance of endorser can make a difference, but you’ve got to be Oprah Winfrey to have that much of an impact.”

Another well–known Rhode Islander – former treasurer Frank Caprio – will face Seth Magaziner in the primary. Caprio did not return calls seeking comment for this story.
