A former Rhode Island man who authorities say faked his own death and fled to Scotland will face a judge Thursday, with the possibility of being extradited back to the United States.

Nicholas Alahverdian was believed to have died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2020, according to his obituary.

Rhode Island State Police told ABC 6 News earlier this year that Alahverdian had been found alive in Scotland.

The Utah County Attorney’s Office said he also goes by Arthur Knight.

Knight is in the process of being extradited to stand trial in Utah for alleged rape charges from a 2008 incident, according to authorities.

He was recently found guilty of threatening and abusive behavior from an incident at a hospital in Scotland.
