Former RI lab received live anthrax in 2008

The Pentagon now says anthrax was sent to a lab in Rhode Island, but the lab is no longer in the state.

The CDC told the Rhode Island Office of Health and Human Services that Rhode Island residents and former lab workers are not at risk.

The live anthrax spores were mistakenly sent to at least 52 labs in 18 states as well as three other countries from the Dugway Army Lab in Utah in 2008.

A small amount of live anthrax spores was also sent to a private lab in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The shipment was handled 11 months ago and has been frozen since then.
