Providence, R.I. (WLNE) – A Veterans Affairs nurse was sentenced to federal prison Friday for tampering with hospital prescriptions.

Jared Scott, 35, of West Warwick, admitted that he stole morphine and other opioid prescriptions while working at the VA Medical Center in Providence.

Scott said he removed vials from a locked storage cart and stole the prescriptions for his own personal use on several occasions in October and November 2017.

Scott pleaded guilty on December 7, 2018 on counts of tampering with a consumer product and obtaining a controlled substance by deception and subterfuge. He was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison on Friday followed by two years of supervised release.
