Former Westerly High School staff member charged with sexual assault

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — A former Westerly High School staff member is accused of having sexual contact with a student who’s under the age of 18.
Police said Tuesday they arrested Sean Tormey and charged him with three counts of third degree sexual assault.
In March, Tormey was accused of directing inappropriate behavior towards a female student.
Soon after, the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office and Westerly police were notified of the accusations, said Chief Paul Gingerella.
Tormey, according to the Superintendent Dr. Mark Garceau, was not a teacher and hasn’t been at the high school since March 10.
Gingerella said Tormey was processed at the police station and taken to Washington District Court to be arraigned.
