Former Woonsocket man gets 5 years for trafficking crack cocaine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — United States Attorney Zachary Cunha said that a former Woonsocket man was sentenced for operating a significant drug dealing business.

David Kennedy pled guilty on October 1, 2019 to a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base.

The 33-year-old admitted to supplying more than 44 grams of crack cocaine to customers on at least three occasions while under police surveillance.

Kennedy was arrested in July 2019 by members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, who found him to be in possession of 119 grams of crack cocaine, 895 grams of powder cocaine, and $3,000 in cash.

The judge sentenced Kennedy to serve 60 months of incarceration to be followed by four years of federal supervised release.

He also admitted he was supplied by a “broker,” 37-year-old Christian Nieves, also formerly from Woonsocket, who was sentenced in January 2020 to five years in federal prison to be followed by four years of federal supervised release.
