Forum to be held on how to improve RI public transportation

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island politicians plan to meet with transit experts to discuss how to improve public transportation in the state.

A group of public transit advocacy organizations, Coalition for Transportation Choices, is sponsoring a forum on Tuesday at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The coalition says that Gov. Gina Raimondo, House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello and Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed are scheduled to speak at “NEXT STOP: Making Mass Transit Work for Rhode Island.”        

The event includes speakers from other cities that have improved their mass transit, including Hartford, Connecticut, Denver, Colorado and Minneapolis, Minnesota.There will be a panel of local transit experts and representatives from Rhode Island state agencies.         

The coalition is working to raise awareness about the role of mass transit in economic and community development.
