It was a rough commute for many on Thursday morning because of slushy roadways and black ice.

In the city of Providence, police responded to 48 accidents between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning. This compares to the average 23 accidents a day in the capital city.

Police say the majority of the accidents were due to icy conditions.

State Police on the other hand only responded to 7 accidents between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
