Four hospitalized following house fire in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Four people were taken to the hospital on Sunday morning, as the result of a house fire in Providence, according to the fire department.

Fire officials responded to reports of a fire in a three-family home on Plainfield Street at about 10 a.m.

Initial reports said that three or four people had been stuck inside of the home during the blaze.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, two of the people had already gotten themselves out of the home. Officials were able to safely rescue the other two.

The fire was confined to the first floor, but all three levels were deemed unlivable, leaving three families displaced.

Fire officials said that four people were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Two had suffered from smoke inhalation, another had suffered minor burns.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
