Four Knights Heading To NJCAA Nationals At Bridgewater Meet

 Four Knights qualify for NJCAA Nationals at Bridgewater Meet!

Warwick, R.I. – March 28, 2011:  The CCRI track & field team traveled to Bridgewater, MA to compete in the Bridgewater Bears Invitational on Saturday. 

Jordan Jefferies (Providence, RI) jumps his way to the NJCAA Championships by winning the long jump with a leap of 6.29m. He then came back to place fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 12.93m. Both distances were qualifying marks for nationals. Jefferies also placed 10th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.85 seconds and 20th in the 200m dash in a time of 24.67 seconds. Raymond Dormer (Warwick, RI) also qualified for the NJCAA nationals in the javelin throw with a toss of 45.13m, a personal-best good for ninth place.  Tim Phok (Providence, RI) qualified with a personal-best third place 48.26m toss in the hammer. Jackie Hurteau (North Kingstown, RI) ran for second place in the 5,000m in a national qualifying time of 19:27.21. Michelle Krol (Smithfield, RI) also had a good day qualifying in the 100m dash for nationals with a sixth place run in a time of 13.33 seconds and also placed fifth in the 200m with a time of 27.99 seconds. Cole Maguire (Foster, RI) ran for 11th place in the 1,500m in a time of 4 minutes 22.73 seconds. Nick Santilli (Coventry, RI) placed 21st in the 400m in a time of 55.92 seconds and 27th in the 200m in a time of 25.78 seconds. Steve Bell (Warwick, RI) placed 25th in the 400m in a time of 57.14 seconds and placed 30th in the 200m in a time of 26.08 seconds. Mirvine Azor (Cranston, RI) placed 20th in the 100m dash in a time of 15.39 seconds and placed 32nd in the 200m in a time of 33.56 seconds. Josh Baxter (East Providence, RI) placed 25th in the 100m dash in a time of 12.44 seconds then placed 16th in the long jump with a 5.21m leap. Therese Kerin (East Greenwich, RI) placed 16th in the 800m race with a time of 2:47.57 followed by teammate Allyson Bejma (Pawtucket, RI) who placed 17th in a time of 2:48.31 in her first 800m race ever. Freshmen Kyle Del Sesto (Gloucester, RI) placed 11th in the javelin throw just missing an NJCAA qualifying mark with a fine throw of 42.24m. In the men's 5,000m Stefan Cox (West Kingston, RI) ran a personal-best time of 17:32.61 good for 23rd place followed by teammate Ray Dormer who placed 25th in a personal-best time of 17:43.19 followed Brenden Dohoney (Warwick, RI) placing 27th in a time of 18:11.92.

The Knights next meet will be Saturday the second when they will travel to Smithfield, RI to compete in the Bryant Invitational.
