Freshpet recalls dog food because of potential salmonella contamination
The Rhode Island Department of Health on Monday said Freshpet is recalling some of its dog food because of potential salmonella contamination.
Freshpet is recalling a single lot of its Freshpet Select Fresh From the Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe, which has a sell-by date of Oct. 29.
This product, the Department of Health said, was sold in several states, including Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Health officials said dogs who eat it and anyone who handles the food could be at risk of getting salmonella.
Salmonella symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
Dog owners with products matching the description and sell-by date should stop feeding it to their dogs and throw it away immediately.
